- Vidarbha
Heres what CricBuzz says about him.
Jitesh Sharma performed superbly in the 2012-13 Cooch Behar Trophy, which propelled him to get a place in the senior Vidarbha side. He made a name for an emerging Vidarbha side as a lower order finisher in limited overs cricket. Jitesh Sharma was also picked by Mumbai Indians in 2016, but didn’t get a game.
It looked like his prime was behind him as Jitesh failed to make it beyond the domestic circuit for a few years, and was heading towards oblivion. However, Jitesh Sharma had other plans as he sprang back to life in the 2021-22 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He scored 19 sixes in the competition, the most in the tournament and carved a niche for himself as a lower-order dasher.
This Mushtaq Ali form piqued interest from Punjab Kings for the 2022 IPL, and Jitesh proved to be a real dark horse. Playing a wide array of ramps, scoops and smashing those huge sixes, Jitesh was one of the breakout stars of the 2022 IPL. He followed that up with another solid Mushtaq Ali series, and got a maiden India call-up in 2023, being roped in mid-series against Sri Lanka for an injured Sanju Samson.
Heres what ESPNcricinfo says about him.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Jitesh Sharma broke into the Vidarbha senior side in the 2013-14 season on the back of strong performances in the 2012-13 Cooch Behar Trophy, where he scored 537 runs in 12 innings with two centuries and a fifty. He made his List A debut in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2013-14 and for the first two seasons played only limited-overs matches for Vidarbha, batting mostly in the top order.
In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2015-16, Jitesh finished as the third-highest run-getter in the tournament, scoring 343 runs at a strike rate of 143.51 with one century and two fifties. His attacking approach at the top of the order caught the eye of Mumbai Indians, who bought him for Rs 10 lakh in the IPL 2016 auction.
Jitesh made his Ranji Trophy debut in the 2015-16 season but had an ordinary tournament, scoring 180 runs in seven matches at an average of 18.
