Heres what CricBuzz says about him.
Sharma didn't have a strong physique, but he more than made up for his built with his inspiring performances.
In 1985, Sharma picked up 14 wickets in three Tests against Sri Lanka. Later that year in the World Series Cup in Australia, India needed a win against New Zealnd to reach the final. Sharma played a match-winning innings of 38* and helped India down New Zealand by 22 runs.
Sharma is also remembered for bowling the last over in the final of the Austral-Asia cup in 1986. With Pakistan needing 4 off the last ball to win, Sharma ended up bowling a low full toss to Javed Miandad, who carved him for a six.
Sharma also played a major role in India's 2-0 Test series win over England in 1986. He took 16 wickets in two Tests, including a career best 6/58 in the second innings at Birmingham. He ended the match with 10 wickets in total. In the 1987 World Cup, Sharma took the first hat-trick in the tournament's history. He picked up the wickets of New Zealand's Ken Rutherford, Ian Smith and Ewen Chatfield with successive balls.
Sharma was an able batsman as well. In 1989, he scored his maiden ODI ton against England in the MRF World Series match. He achieved this milestone after he was promoted to No. 4 in the batting order, helping India win by 6 wickets. With the ball, Sharma was the first choice opening partner with Kapil Dev for almost 5 years. Sharma played his last Test against the West Indies in 1989. However, he continued to play ODIs for India till 1994. Sharma finished his international career with 61 Test and 67 ODI wickets.
In 1993, Sharma shifted from Haryana to Bengal and stayed with them till the end of his career in 1996/97. He ended his first-class career with 433 wickets from 121 games. He also scored 3714 runs with an average of 35.03, hitting 3 centuries and 21 fifties in a span of 15 years.
Post-retirement, Chetan Sharma has taken up television commentary. He also fought the 2009 Lok Sabha Elections for Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) from Faridabad.

Heres what ESPNcricinfo says about him.
A pocket-sized powerhouse, Chetan Sharma made up for his lack of
height and build with a good action and thrust from the shoulders at
the point of delivery. He made his international debut at 17 and a
year later, aged 18 years, 288 days, played his first Test. He made it memorable by bowling Mohsin Khan with his fifth ball - the third Indian to take a wicket in his first over in Test cricket. He remained Kapil Dev's able partner for almost five years. Though the experts were of the view that he would not last long because of his slight physique, Chetan proved them wrong by some lion-hearted performances. He first gave notice when he took 14 wickets in three Tests in Sri Lanka in 1985, including his first five wicket haul. He did even better in England in 1986 when he took 16 wickets in two Tests, including the first ten-wicket haul by an Indian bowler in that country. Against the West Indies in 1987-88, he had his fourth five-wicket haul in Tests at New Delhi. He played his last Test in the West Indies in 1989 but continued to represent India in one day internationals until 1994-95. Chetan was also a more than useful tailend batsman, as he proved by holding out against McDermott, Hughes and Reid for over two hours in making 54 when sent in as a nightwatchman against Australia in 1985, or when hitting an exhilerating 101 not out when he was promoted to No. 4 against England in the MRF World Series match in 1989. In retirement, Chetan has found success as a popular TV commentator.
