Heres what CricBuzz says about him.
Having started out for Andhra in the Ranji Trophy, he switched to Hyderabad and later Baroda as well. The constant changing of teams did however mean that he wasn't in harmony with the team managements at certain points. The runs did keep coming though, and just when it seemed like he might finally turn things around, another roadblock arrived. Rayudu was one of the first players to join the Indian Cricket League when it came calling in 2007. He was awed by the opportunity to play alongside foreign players and make a name in front of the television audiences. This however caused a clash with the BCCI and the active players' careers in the league were hindered due to that.
Eventually, when the ICL was dissolved, Rayudu accepted BCCI's amnesty offer in 2009 and was picked up by Mumbai to play in their IPL side soon after. Playing as a middle-order batsman and part-time wicket-keeper for the Mumbai franchise, Rayudu was a vital cog of the Mumbai franchise who have won the tournament thrice. After a 10-year old association, in a fresh auction, he got picked by Chennai franchise for the 2018-20 phase of the IPL. In between all this, Rayudu did get a few opportunities in national colors although it has mostly been when the big boys have been rested. Nevertheless, he did grab his chances most of the times.
Some might say that Rayudu was unlucky in his international career. Statistically, he had good numbers in ODIs although the strike-rate wasn't that high - a stark contrast considering the unflappable strokemaker that he was when he first burst into the scene. A roller-coaster 2018-19 season, where he went from being India's designated no.4 in ODIs to being left out of the squad itself, forced Rayudu to retire from international cricket. He also endured a disastrous 2019 IPL but the management's style of backing players meant that he got retained for the 2020 season.
After creating a stir by tweeting that the 2022 IPL season would be his last, Rayudu then deleted the tweet after being spoken to by CSK's team management. Earlier in 2022 he was bought by CSK for INR 6.75 Crore.

Heres what ESPNcricinfo says about him.
A pint-sized punisher who was in the news as much for his run-ins with management and umpires as for his fluent strokemaking, Ambati Rayudu has witnessed several twists and turns in his career.
At 16, he was spoken of as India's next great batting hope when he blazed an unbeaten 177 as opener, helping India Under-19s complete a clean sweep of a one-day series in England in 2002. The Ranji Trophy season that followed was also exceptional for him, including a double-century and a hundred for Hyderabad in a match against Andhra Pradesh.
Rayudu led India Under-19s to the semi-final of the World Cup in Bangladesh in 2004, but a disappointing domestic season later that year, and disagreements with his Hyderabad coach, saw him move to represent Andhra.
At 21, his decision to play in the unsanctioned Indian Cricket League in 2007 nearly ended his India prospects, but after accepting the BCCI'S amnesty offer in 2009, he was picked up by Mumbai Indians for the IPL the following year, which marked the start of a run where he was among their top run-scorers till 2017, and part of three title-winning sides. His prolific run with the bat continued after he moved to Chennai Super Kings in 2018, where he racked up 602 runs in his debut season for the franchise.
Rayudu's IPL prowess contrasted sharply with his spotty career at the national level. He was handed his India debut in a low-profile ODI series in Zimbabwe in 2013 and responded with an unbeaten 63, becoming the third-oldest Indian at the time to score a fifty on ODI debut. He was part of the 2015 World Cup squad but did not get a game. The following year he was left out of India's World T20 side.
After a two-year lull, he found himself back in the ODI side in 2018, appearing in 11 of the 20 matches India played that year, and scoring his third ODI century, against West Indies. He was left out of the World Cup squad in 2019, though, and announced his retirement from all cricket following the snub - but quickly rescinded that decision and came back to captain Hyderabad in domestic cricket and turn out for Chennai Super Kings for another four seasons in the IPL, two of them title-winning.
